06/05/2024 - New Album; 6 Pack Remixes IV

I decided to make some more remixes since I enjoy making them and it’s light work just arranging it another way. They are mostly released stuff except for one of them which is now unreleased and can’t be put out due to not having the right ID from my last account which was called Vision Of Colour. It’s more upbeat danceable stuff which you can also have on in the background if you are just chilling. The remixes are all House tracks but some of the original tracks are synthy stuff I made either not so long ago or quite a long time ago and does vary. I like to pick say synthy tracks and make a House remix out of it and like to see what it sounds like as a dance track for example. I would say this is dance music and is reminiscent of the early 90s dance scene with the heavy kicks and pumping basses. For the synth stuff I used some of the Korg Collection and it could be the M1 again but I did use different ones for the tracks. I know it was definitely Korg because I used it mostly on the original tracks like Has The Nightmare Started and Backstop. The other stuff were samples I found either from Splice.com or something I had on my computer like the basses were all from my own collection of basses and mostly loops which I cut down to a one-shot or one-hit as some people may call them. The first track Has The Nightmare Started (Remix) is a danceable 90s track that reminds me of 90s radio or radio in general, especially on a Friday and Saturday late night. I like the bass and the melodics and I would say is one of my favourites on the album for its old-school appeal to it, I don’t know it just reminds me of the flavour of the old-school seems like happiness you know ha. The next track Close Your Mouth (Remix) is another danceable track with an outrageous arp bass with the vocal overlay which I cut up myself from a sample I found on Splice.com. There’s something a bit Eddy about it and if you know the track you might hear the resemblance of the two tracks, it might be the arp which I think they used on that track. The next track Wormz (Remix) is a Deep House late-night track while the original I made was a Jungle/Drum and Bass track I made a couple of years ago now and is a far different track, this one is more of a relaxing track with soft vocals and deep melodic bass with a western feel to it which is the sample I found on my computer. It’s one of my favourites on the album and I like it for its soft side which I like to play on at night as it feels like nightlife if you are out raving still or are a raver and no longer go out. That’s why I like to play this sort of music it gives me what I need some nightlife and reminds me of being out and about when I was younger. The next track Galaxy Faded (Remix) is my overall favourite on the album and I loved the original which can be found on on my Afrofuturim album Space Lemonade an unreleased album but can be found on my Soundcloud page. I have more Afrofuturism music being released soon which is a cross between African music, Hip Hop, Funk, Reggae, House and synthy stuff it’s been uploaded just waiting a couple of weeks for the release I keep you posted. I like synths over the bass and drums which I think goes well together and for it being different from the other House tracks I make and reminds me of a car advert. The next track Talk About (What’s The Delay Remix) is another House remix for the books. I don’t usually make more than one remix of the track and did this one by accident but I’m glad I did as I quite like it and think it’s a danceable track. The original track was UK Funky so this is a bit different from that one and the other House remix I made which I think was on the last part. It’s one for the clubs and think it would work well there and also at home if you like cos you take the rave home with you lol. The last track Backstop (Remix) is a chilled deep bass but danceable feel track which is the remix to my Synthwave track Backstop. I like the arp to it and the bass with the dusty synthy sounds coming in every now and then acting as the chorus or hook.

16/04/2024 - New Album; Remix This Vol. 4

I’m back with a free download and the next instalment of Remix This. It’s mostly House remixes but there are two Jungle/Drum and Bass tracks and two UK Funky tracks in there too. As always I found the acapella online and made something new out of them and is a mixed genre from Trap, R’n’B and Motown with some other genres thrown in there and are some of my favourite songs to listen to. Some of the tracks are off my live music making I did on YouTube and I’ve made quite a few videos by now and I have plenty more to make so if you want to see how I make the music please go to my main YouTube channel @gasnolight. I’ve made a special place for my remixes with the original track and then my remix next to it. That can be found under the Inspirations page in the G.N.L drop-down menu if you are interested there are quite a few tracks on the page already and a mixed bag of genres so if you like your music or you want to hear the vocal samples I used please head to my Inspiration page. I must admit it’s getting harder to select suitable tracks to remix but I manage to do it cos I don’t make them all at the same time and are done over some time which I never rush but it is getting harder to find tracks and I don’t know how I find the good ones that I love. The first track Hiss (G.N.L. Remix) is Hiss by Megan Thee Stallion and something a bit current. It is what I call a club track and something for the party with the melody I made myself and is one of my favourites on the album. The next track Just Tripping by The Temptations and is another favourite on the album as I used a real tape deck by recording the vocals onto a tape deck and then using my Tascam to get the sound from and to record it. The next track Frozen (G.N.L. Remix) is by Madonna and is also called Frozen and is another one for the club. The next track Miss You (G.N.L. Remix) is by Aaliyah and is also called Miss You. It’s one of my overall favourites on the album as I love the bass and the lyrics. I used a bit of delay on some of the vocals for the crispy effect. The next track Recurring Dreams is by Lil Kim and called Backstabbers. I wanted to make something special for this UK Funky so I thought I bootlegged some vocals by making a DIY acapella of the song using RX7 by Iztope. Again it’s one of my overall favourites on the album as I love the funky rhythm and all what is in the song. I thought I haven’t heard a remix of the song Backstabbers and especially UK Funky so I thought  there’s a first for everything. The next track Burnt By The Fire is from Janet Jackson’s That’s The Way Love Goes and is a Jungle/Drum and Bass track. I made this track live for a YouTube video which can be found on my main YouTube channel as discussed before. I do like this track and again another favourite on the album. I like the chilled but danceable beat over the deep bass good for those large speakers, with more delay as I love to make a lot of delay in my House and my remixes. The next track Go Through Things is by Mary J Blige and called Changes I’ve Been Through. I’m happy with this one as I used more tape deck and didn’t come out too well I in fact had to resurrect the vocals and get them up to listenable level which was a task. The next track Receipts is from Notorious B.I.G. and is from You’re Nobody (Till Somebody Kills You.) I was shocked to found the acapella online but I thought I just had to remix the track as it’s one of my favourite tracks and from Biggie. The next track Skin (G.N.L. Remix) is from Rihanna and also called Skin. It’s one of my favourites of Rihanna and another one I thought I’d like to remix and see how it comes out. The next track is Came Back For You (G.N.L. Remix) and is by Lil’ Kim also called Came Back For You. I was most shocked to find the acapella of the song and thought I couldn’t turn it down. Again one of my favourites from Lil’ Kim and something a bit different. The next track is Children Of The Night (Howl) (Jungle Remix) and is from 1930 black and white film Dracula. I’ve made a few versions of this song including a dub version so I thought I’d add another version since it’s been a while now. The next track I Like (G.N.L. Remix) is from Guy’s I Like and I went for a 80s DJ mixdown and reminds me of the set from Sunrise Back To The Future and from the DJ Carl Cox. The next track Scrub is from TLC’s No Scrubs and something I made a while ago but thought I put on the album since it is a remix and it is okay I feel. The next track Tide is from Chaka Khan’s Miss The Water and another UK Funky track I made and favourite on the album. It’s another one I used tape deck on by recording the vocals onto the tape deck which I think came out alright in the end. The next track Baby My Love is from The Supremes Baby Love and another one I was surprised to find the acapella to so I thought I just had to remix it and see how it comes out. The next track Rhythm Of The Night (G.N.L. Remix) is from  Corona’s Rhythm Of The Night and something I was a bit scared to remix as it’s a old school banger but I’m happy with the outcome. The next track Searching 4 Love is from Mary J Blige’s Real Love and another favourite on the album. I like the chilled relaxing vibe to it and the the slight sadness to the song which is kind of funny as I was happy when I made this song and something I did quite a while a go but thought I rerelease it again. The next track Angels With Filthy Souls (Doorstep Material Remix) is from Home Alone 1 and the spoof film also called Angels With Filthy Souls. The next track My House (G.N.L. Remix) is from Beyonce’s My House and another favourite on the album. I thought with a track with house in I just had to remix it and again one of my favourite current songs from Beyonce. The last track Tears Of A Clown (G.N.L. Remix) is from Smokey Robinson’s And The Miracles also called Tears Of A Clown. Again I was surprised to find the acapella and it’s another one I thought I want to remix it and see how it comes out so I did.

16/04/2024 - New Album; The Music Sessions Vol. 1

I went on a live spree doing back-to-back five-song music-making live on YouTube and I quite enjoyed making them as always. I went for the genres I make a lot of which are Synthwave, House, Jungle Drum and Bass, Chiptune and UK Garage. Okay, I haven’t made quite a lot of UK Garage but I’ve made some so I thought I make some more since it’s something I enjoy making but don’t make too much of. I make more House, Jungle/Drum & Bass and Synthwave as that’s what I like to make and enjoy making the most. I didn’t know what else to call it so I called it The Music Sessions as it’s me making music live and not knowing what I was going to do next just me and my Akai keyboard which is a small but handy thing and it fits on my desk nicely. I keep meaning to be more active online and this is a small bid to start doing just that I liked the thought of making music live even though no one would watch me at the time which does make it easier to make the music knowing there ain’t no one’s watching or waiting for the next bit, I like to take my time but not take too long on it as the music gets boring. This is why I like to change the synths halfway through to give it some new life otherwise I liked the track and didn’t want to change it. I sampled two tracks on this EP which I won’t be doing again as YouTube and their rules and regulations I really don’t want to get banned from the platform or lose anything. I didn’t have a warning from YouTube until last week that was and I’m not happy about it. How are DJs meant to survive with all these rules? It does dampen the mood of good old-fashioned music making but lucky I make music myself as I own the rights to most of the songs I make except the copyrighted ones like the remixes I make and give out as free downloads, I don’t mind making free music as well. The two songs I picked and found samples on my computer were Janet Jackson  That’s The Way Love Goes and Lil’ Kim the skit at the end of No Matter What People Say off Notorious K.I.M album. I wasn’t even going to do sampling on the tracks but I was listening to the song and the acapella and worked out they would go together quite well so I added them all together in two separate songs Burnt By The Fire and Whoose Calling. The Lil’ Kim skit is one of my favourite skits with TLC of Crazy Sexy Cool and the intro to Aaliyah’s Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number it’s the “I see her ass at the MF concert” on the Lil’ Kim skit though FIY it’s going down. I did use some aiders one drum pattern per song and did it on two songs, the other two I did myself as I wanted to make it interesting and it turns out that kept me happy as by now making music is sometimes a chore but an enjoyable one once you know what you are doing and making and it’s all laid out. Also, there is a bit of Janet Jackson’s – That’s The Way Love Goes on the sixth track, Dracula the 1913 version on the seventh track, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles’s – Tears Of a Clown on the eighth track and Diana Ross and the Supremes on the last track the tenth track. making it into sessions better for me as I can come back and make some more shortly and some genres I don’t make a lot of as I said UK Garage is one of them and also gaming music which I make now and then. My favourite tracks on the album are Summer Lasting, Now’s The Time, Children Of The Night (Howl) (Jungle Remix), Lost Control and Tears Of A Clown (The G.N.L. Remix.) My overall favourite is Tears Of A Clown (The G.N.L Remix) and Lost Contol.
